Male Sexual Dysfunction Myths and Facts
Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
MYTH ED is just part of the aging process.
FACT Although ED is more common in older men, it is not an unavoidable part of the aging process and is completely treatable. Most commonly, ED is a symptom of cardiovascular problems which tend to affect people over the age of 40. ED affects men of all ages and through The Boston Method we’ve treated men who are well into their 90s.
MYTH Oral ED pills are the most effective way to treat erectile dysfunction.
FACT About 30% of men either cannot take oral ED pills because they counteract with other medications or they are ineffective. Boston Medical Group has many treatment options; some of which are faster-acting and more reliable than oral ED pills.
MYTH There are no ED treatments for men with diabetes, high blood pressure or heart conditions.
FACT Men with certain health conditions cannot take ED pills because they counteract or interfere with their medications. Boston Medical Group physicians can provide non-systemic treatments that are just as reliable as ED pills for both ED and PE.
MYTH There are many herbal products on the market that can help men with ED.
FACT There are no known herbal products that can effectively treat ED and furthermore, some are proven to be dangerous. You should consult with a physician before beginning any ED treatment.
Premature Ejaculation (PE)
MYTH Men cannot learn to control their ejaculation.
FACT Similar to how men learn to control their bladders they can learn to control when they ejaculate.
MYTH PE is primarily a psychological issue.
FACT While some men do experience psychological PE, many times the condition is caused by an oversensitive glans penis (or, “head”) causing what’s known as “low ejaculatory threshold.”
MYTH Numbing gels or sprays sold in sex shops are a good way to control premature ejaculation.
FACT Most of these products can numb the head of the penis and well as their partner’s vagina as well, reducing pleasure for both people. These products are ineffective because PE will still
persist after you’re done using them.
MYTH Premature ejaculation will not affect your confidence or ability to socialize in everyday life.
FACT Premature ejaculation can negatively affect a man’s self image, reducing his confidence and ability to socialize. Men who gain the ability to control ejaculation become more confident and outgoing in social situations.
