About Premature Ejaculation

WHAT IS PREMATURE EJACULATION

Premature ejaculation (PE) is when a man regularly reaches orgasm too quickly for either himself or for his sexual partner to be satisfied during sexual intercourse. This can lead to stress and anxiety, and can be problematic for both partners in a relationship. PE can occur either during masturbation, during sex with a partner or both. It is also more common than most men think; PE occurs most frequently in men under the age of 40 and it is believed that about one in three men suffer from the condition in some form.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF PE?

Although they can vary case-by-case, the following are common symptoms of PE:

  • Inability to control ejaculation
  • Ejaculating before ready or before a partner has been satisfied
  • Ejaculating before penetration, during penetration, or very shortly thereafter

WHAT CAUSES PE?

Premature ejaculation is most commonly caused by an oversensitive glans penis, or the “head” of the penis. It can also be caused psychologically due to anxiety and fear associated with not being able to please one’s partner. Prolonged problems with premature ejaculation can lead to more stress and anxiety which can work to exacerbate the problem.

SOME BIOLOGICAL CAUSES OF PE INCLUDE

  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Thyroid issues
  • Neurotransmitter abnormalities
  • Abnormal reflex activity of the ejaculatory system
  • Inflammation and infection of the prostate or urethra
  • Genetic abnormalities

GETTING TREATMENT FOR PE

Using The Boston Method, a physician can determine the true cause of the condition by conducting a thorough evaluation, both physically and psychologically.  After the diagnosis, a physician can then use that determination to find the best treatment option(s) available.  Because the condition can vary greatly from one man to another, it is important to consult an experienced physician.

WHY GET TREATMENT?

PE can create relationship difficulties and lead to stress, resentment and communication problems. The lack of sexual confidence brought on by PE can also make it very difficult for some men to have the desire to initiate relationships or feel confident in sexual situations. A man’s sexual health is closely linked to his physical and psychological well-being and its importance cannot be overstated.

THE IMPORTANCE OF GETTING TREATMENT

To prevent further worsening of sexual function, it is best to be treated for ED as quickly as possible. Long-term disuse of the penile organ can lead to deterioration and an inability to regain function after treatment.

Finally, a man’s sense of confidence and worth is closely tied with his ability to perform sexually. PE can not only make it difficult to reach sexual satisfaction it can also put a strain on relationships at home, work and lead to depression.
